Plans and Strategies
Dean Martin
Communities that establish plans and strategies can better prepare for economic opportunities, such as growing year-round population trends, new commercial development, or an influx of state or federal dollars. Plans and Strategies can also allow municipalities to respond better to unfavorable conditions, such as economic recession, employee turnover, or increased blight and vacancies.
The Village of Mackinaw City seeks to maintain up-to-date plans that transparently communicate the improvement of public services and infrastructure and communicate initiatives that improve the residents' and businesses' social and economic opportunities.
Master Plan
The Master Plan is the Village of Mackinaw City's guiding document for land use, development, and municipal operations. The Master Plan was created from community consensus and is reviewed by the Planning Commission once every five years, per the Michigan Planning Enabling Act.
Zoning Ordinance
The Village of Mackinaw City's Zoning Ordinance serves as a collection of municipal property laws. The Zoning Ordinance regulates development standards, permitted uses, and the processes for which the Village reviews and approves site plans. Please visit the Zoning and Frequently Asked Questions page for more zoning information.
Sign Ordinance
The Sign Ordinance is a general ordinance that regulates the signage that can be placed on sites within the Village of Mackinaw City.
Economic Development Strategy
The Economic Development Strategy is a document that sets the Village's plan to attract high-paying and year-round jobs, increased housing stock and variety, businesses with products desired by the community, and more. The Economic Development Strategy is reviewed annually to ensure it reflects the Village's vision for economic growth.
Capital Improvements Plan
The Village of Mackinaw City has implemented a Capital Improvements Plan to transparently display upcoming investments in city infrastructure and services. The Capital Improvements Plan is reviewed and updated annually. As a result, this plan may not capture all investments that need to be made and may list items that are no longer critical to purchase.
Guide to Development
Understanding that ordinances and permits may be difficult to comprehend for first-time developers or residents interested in building or improving their homes, the Guide to Development was created. This document walks those constructing through the permitting and approval process.
