Mackinac State Historic Parks is a family of living history museums and nature parks in northern Michigan’s Straits of Mackinac and is an agency within the Michigan Department of Natural Resources. Its sites – which are accredited by the American Association of Museums – include Fort Mackinac, Mackinac Island State Park, The Richard and Jane Manoogian Mackinac Art Museum and Historic Downtown on Mackinac Island, and Colonial Michilimackinac, Historic Mill Creek Discovery Park, and Old Mackinac Point Lighthouse in Mackinaw City.

McGulpin Point Lighthouse is located at The Headlands Dark Sky Park and overlooks the Straits of Mackinac, 2 miles west of Old Mackinac Point Lighthouse near the Mackinaw City, Michigan village limit. The area is open to the public and a fantastic family activity when visiting Mackinaw City.

The Headlands was established in the late 1950s when Roger McCormick hired a helicopter and dropped 50lb. sacks of flour to mark the boundaries of a property he desired to purchase.  The Park contains approximately 550 acres of pristine woodlands, more than two miles of undeveloped Lake Michigan shoreline and many species of rare and endangered plant life.

The Marina is a harbor of refuge for transient vessels using the Straits area. Shower and bathroom facilities are available for those docking at the Marina. The Marina lawn provides a gathering place for community events, band concerts, and other such activities.
