Arbor Day Celebration

The Village of Mackinaw City celebrated Arbor Day on April 23, 2012 at the Heritage Village along with the Third Grade Class and their teacher Mrs. Christy Beauchamp.
An exciting presentation was given by volunteers from the Mackinaw Area Historical Society, in vintage attire, on the importance of Arbor Day and the historical time period from 1880-1917. Children were given a hands-on opportunity to see how their great-grandparents worked planting fields during that time period. Children were able to participate and witness two draft horses pull a 100-year old plow till the pumpkin field. The weather was wonderful and the kids enjoyed a fun filled afternoon.
Thank you to the Third Grade Class, Mrs. Beauchamp and Mackinaw City Public Schools, the Heritage Village volunteers, and Scott and Casey Ward of Harbor Springs for donating their time, horses, till and plow for this exciting and informative event.
